I recently moved in a house with a Bangladeshi, a Vietnamese, and an American. I was looking in the pantry and fridge so see who's space is whose and upon inspecting, the foods were very different. Some had the same main ingredients, but the garnishes were different. I thought this was cool and felt like the house was a mini melting pot of ethnicity.

This Saturday is Lunar New Years and my boyfriend's Chinese friend invited him to eat Dim Sum. He called me and asked about it, not having a clue what it is. My automatic response was "Really?!", then I realized even though I think it's an obvious eatery, not everyone knows about it. It's something ethnic specific.

Jawad, my roommate, comes out while I am making a snack. He says, "I don't think I have ever met anyone in my life who has eaten so many different veggies and so much of it." which to me is interesting because I didn't think I ate that much green. It is normal for Orientals to eat a lot of leafy greens so this wasn't anything new. But it was to him.

My lab TA was talking about her experience to China and how it was so different from anything she's ever experienced. She was saying that her bf's family was super family oriented and she found it odd because she isn't used to that. His parents expected him to take care of them in old age while her parents don't care. The different views on how a child should be in different cultures is shocking and I thought it was interesting.

Today is Valentine's day and I spent the day with my bf. During our dinner, my mom texts me and says happy Valentine's. My bf thought it was weird that my mom would do that because he said his family wouldn't care for things like that. We spent the next hour comparing and contrasting our family's morals and expectations.. Needless to say, it was very enlightening. He is Irish/Italian.

The Dakota Access Pipe runs under holy ground to the native people and I was talking about this in my ecology class. My classmate had a friend who was in the riot trying to defend the land since it was sacred. Of course, money trumps all in Trump's view and he has okayed the progression. Of course this would also be more efficient, but the lack of consideration for these people just baffles me. http://www.cnn.com/2017/02/22/us/five-things-wednesday-trnd/

An office to serve just American victims? Should it not be all victims; because victims are victims regardless of race? As if immigrants aren't victims either.. I can think of many immigrants who also need justice just as the next "American". In my eyes this further divides us instead of uniting us like he states in the clip. VOICE is also so specific towards immigrants committing crimes. This seems almost racist, but that is for viewers to decide. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/02/28/trump-calls-for-new-government-agency-for-victims-of-crime-by-immigrants.html

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY. How great is this? All women coming together globally to show just how important our sex is. We make up 87% of elementary schools! Those children are our future and guess who's hands they are in? Women. We deserve equality and one example of that is control over our own bodies. Pro-choice. Our bodies, our choice. That's all I will say about that! http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/women-s-strike-day-without-woman-events-take-place-worldwide-n730021

Racism is still a very real thing. The interesting thing about this case is that the guy who stabbed the black man was charged with terrorism! Unlike those previous shootings due to racism.. I think that is a step into the right direction. Interestingly, the killer was an Army vet who intention went looking for a black male to kill. First degree murder and unlike Execution of Justice, there will be execution. Of JUSTICE. http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/manhattan/suspect-midtown-knife-killing-surrenders-cops-article-1.3005263

Careful what you say because sometimes it may just come off very offensively. In this case, he didn't mean to be racist and probably did not think of it that way.. But he let a phrase slip and now he is being called out for being racist. At least he apologized, but I am sure people are still not going to let it go because it was just rude of him to say to begin with. http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/28/media/bill-oreilly-maxine-waters/index.html

Bank of America has now finally been cracked down on for being racially discriminating in their hiring generations ago. The Department of Labor had analyzed their data from the bank and has now demanded that the bank pay a million shared between about a thousand people for the unfair treatment. This was one of the few times people were served justice, but it took 25 years in the making. The bank still refuses to admit to anything and they think the were always fair in their hiring process. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/bank-america-settles-racial-discrimination-case-1993-46848254

This is like the "Lines" play in real life all over again. This time, in Missouri. Not only did this guy's boss use racial slurs against him, he is refusing to rent out a particular area. A lawsuit was filed against the supervisor, but the owner of the company was the senator and he denied any such thing. The only thing he admitted to was the map in the background with the "lines", but this should've been enough for the lawsuit to go through, in my opinion. http://www.riverfronttimes.com/newsblog/2017/04/12/sued-for-discrimination-missouri-senator-pushes-law-limiting-discrimination-suits

It's Easter and I wanted to write about my own religion. I am Catholic and this day is the most important to us. There are days within the prior week that lead up to this day that are also important, like Palm Sunday and Good Thursday. On these days, I focus on my beliefs. The last thing on my mind is a group of people bombing my church for what I believe in. I would say, I am carefree because I would never think twice about it happening here in America. But it did happen in Egypt a few days ago. ISIS claimed to have done it because they wanted to aim at "religious minorities". 27 people died and it's made me think about how I am part of a community that's been bombed for what I believe.. http://www.cnn.com/2017/04/09/middleeast/egypt-church-explosion/

I think this is the craziest thing I read all day. A Disney movie that only 16+ can watch because Russia doesn't approve of a "gay moment"? It is not even a proved thing, but merely an alluding thing.. Yet it is such a big problem? It is 2017 and everyone should know by now that being gay isn't something you just wake up and choose to do for fun. Why be so against gay people, Milonov? It is normal. It is life. They are just as human as you and deserve to be treated as so.
